STATEMENT

Susanna Gogarty is inspired by shape and line in organic formations. Within nature there are forms that suggest fragility, lines that seem random and flowing, and there are those that are defensive, structured and precise. She is drawn to this juxtaposition of those elements, and she works to explore that in her making. In keeping with this interest, in her work one can see themes of repetition and pattern, and themes of smooth, abstract fluidity.

Susanna explores these themes with layered, contoured metal, and with polyester fibre paper, which is pleated into defined, recurring folds. The lines of the metal contrasts with those of the paper that is held between its walls.

Susanna’s work is driven by her fascination with these materials, with possibilities as varied as the forms and contours in nature that influence her designs.
